The season of Advent is a season of anticipation when we await the coming of God in Jesus Christ. The birth of Christ is good news ’cause with it comes the promise of salvation and liberation. So we celebrate that promise, not by waiting passively but by waiting actively – embodying the good news that God is bringing into the world. To that end, we’re inviting you to join us in a couple of different mission opportunities for the season.
Christmas Collection for the Hope Center
We are collecting toys, games, stuffed animals, arts & crafts, as well as $15 gift cards (Target, Walmart, Applebee’s, etc) for children and families in our community. The Hope Center is a longtime friend and partner of FUMCTR and they are a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support, resources, referrals, and food to clients as they work to overcome crisis. They will be distributing these Christmas gifts to families in our area in order to help them have the best Christmas ever! So bring your gifts to the church office any time during office hours by Dec. 16th, or bring them to worship with you on Dec. 9th or Dec. 16th.
Advent Diaper Drive
Diapers are expensive for families who are just barely making it. So remembering that Jesus was indeed born as a baby to a poor family, we are collecting diapers for low-income families in Trenton, NJ. Please bring new and packaged diapers (any size will do) on or before December 16th. We will be donating them to “The Makers’ Place,” a United Methodist Ministry in Trenton.
Brandon’s Elves
Brandon’s Elves was established to remember Brandon Holt who was only 6 years old when he lost his life to a tragic and preventable gun accident in 2013. Their main purpose is to provide assistance to families in Ocean County, NJ by providing their children with a Christmas. Chestnut Hill Nursery School is collecting toys for Brandon’s Elves in order to help make a child’s Christmas just a little bit brighter. Make donations to the church office or look for marked boxes near the nursery school.
Donate
Lastly, you can always make a special donation through the church. If you’d like to donate in support of one of these Advent mission opportunities, just use our regular donation tab (click here) and where it says “Give to….” simply select “Other” and type in the mission to which you want to give.
